A Mother

After the death of his father, Alejandro (19) embarks on a journey to visit his mother, who has been institutionalized in a rural asylum, and with whom he has had no contact for 15 years since her admission. Driven by the need for a maternal figure in his life and believing that she was unjustly locked away, Alejandro steals his schizophrenic mother with the determination to bring her back home.
However, Alejandro's plan falls apart, and mother and son are forced to take refuge in the wilderness to avoid being separated. Together, they wander through the mountains, experiencing hunger, cold, and fatigue, until they reach a rural house where Alejandro begs for shelter in exchange for money and work.
There, the relationship between Alejandro and his mother worsens, as she, not taking her medication, frequently suffers from severe crises. Additionally, in order to stay at the refuge, Alejandro must do farm labor under the command of a coarse, pedophilic farmer who, with fervent faith, is convinced that the mother’s madness is a demonic possession. Thus, fleeing from religious fanaticism, Alejandro manages to take his mother away from the farmer and escape back into the wilderness. Surrounded by the harsh landscape, with no place to go and no family to turn to, Alejandro faces the dilemma of whether to continue with his irrational plan or finally give rest to the suffering of both himself and his mother, understanding that letting go is an act of love.
