Ana Salas

She is a filmmaker working in the field of expanded cinema. She has made films and, using the same footage, installations for art spaces. She worked with filmed diaries for several years. From the images she filmed over a decade, she created the short film and video installation Reflejos (2008/2014), her two first feature films: Frente al espejo (2009) and En la ventana (2011, Best Colombian Director Award at the 4th Women’s Cinema Showcase 2012), and the installation De un invierno a otro (2014). She is the director and producer of the documentary feature En el taller (Jury Award for Best Film at the Colombian Panorama in Paris 2017). Based on this film, she created an audiovisual installation in dialogue with the paintings of Carlos Salas for the exhibition The Heart of the Matter (New York, 2016). She has made short films that blur the lines between documentary and experimental cinema. Her films have been shown at national and international festivals, and her installations have been exhibited in museums, galleries, and independent art spaces in Colombia and the United States. She is a member of the steering committee of the Bogotá International Documentary Film Festival – MIDBO and a professor in the Visual Arts Department at the Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá).
